Self-Designed Majors

Self-designed majors—also known as individually designed majors, or IDMs—allows students to design their own majors by including a variety of courses toward a specific educational, artistic, or career goal. In their proposal for the self-designed major, students may include art courses, independent study courses, courses from other majors, or courses from LVAIC schools. Art students should first declare an art major, then work with their art adviser to design their self-designed major proposal.

Alumni Profile: Andrew Piccone, Class of 2008

Andrew Piccone, Photojournalism Self-Designed Major: The medium of photography is one that seems to have limitless potential. To see photographs taken by someone is to see the world through their eyes. Originally I wanted to just major in photography, but I realized that there was more I wanted to do. I love writing, just as much as I love photography. Having written for The Comenian, Â鶹¹û¶³'s student newspaper, I have come to the conclusion that writing is another way to see inside someone. I feel with journalism in addition to photography, I will have the opportunity to work for a newspaper, a periodical, or other media. Through the photojournalism major, I feel as though I will be equipped with the necessary tools to show the world what I see, and what I think. Creating this major will open more doors for me. (This student's program included a semester at Temple University: Rome, Italy, as well as an internship, several independent study courses, and several special topics courses.)

Since graduating from Â鶹¹û¶³, Andrew has continued photography, specializing in music photography and portraiture.
