Faculty

Jonathan Harris, Assistant Professor of Practice

As a seasoned professional with a robust background in cybersecurity, software development, and project management, I bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Currently serving as the Supervisory Branch Manager for Research and Technology at the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD), I lead a dynamic team in developing cutting-edge training technologies and fostering innovation in STEM education.

In my role as the Lead Cybersecurity Engineer, I have spearheaded numerous initiatives to enhance the security and reliability of training systems. This includes implementing Zero Trust principles in the Digital Radio Management System for the Navy Live Virtual Constructive training ranges, ensuring seamless and secure communication. My experience extends to embedded development using low-level languages like C-based assembly, as well as full-stack applications with high-level languages such as C#, Java, and Python.

My tenure at NAWCTSD has been marked by strategic rotations, including a pivotal stint with DASIN iWAR at the Pentagon. This rotation allowed me to gain valuable insights into policy development and support the Cyber Ready initiative, addressing RMF compliance shortcomings. As a Cybersecurity Lab Engineer, I have overseen operations and development, ensuring the integrity of critical systems and leading high-intensity Capture the Flag events at the National Cyber Range Complex.

Beyond cybersecurity, my role as an Engineering Supervisor involves coordinating cross-functional teams and managing technology transfer processes. I am dedicated to supporting small business engagement and fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders. My efforts have contributed to the success of ONR projects, meeting milestones, and achieving research objectives.

I am passionate about education and mentorship, having instructed young students in cybersecurity principles through the Navy League's Cyber Patriot Summer Program.

In the realm of project management, I have led research and development initiatives, performed data collection and statistical analysis, and developed tools for large dataset processing. My leadership of the Prodigy Lab software development team has resulted in the creation of simulators for interface comparisons and control strategies for unmanned vehicles, as well as the development of the

Experimental Platform for Instruments and Controls (EPIC) for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. With a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, I am dedicated to advancing the field of cybersecurity and training technologies, while supporting the growth and development of my team and the broader community.
